Description

The Abyss 22 Navy II is the Mares answer for your challenge in every condition. With careful analysis and evaluation of what happens in cold water, Mares has designed an exclusive product accurately studied to guarantee top performance and reliability under the toughest conditions, including diving under the ice.

The all chrome plated marine brass first stage regulator is a balanced diaphragm design which is environmentally sealed. The diaphragm membrane transmits the pressure changes to the internal mechanism eliminating the need for the surrounding water to enter the intricate mechanism. The benefit of this type of first stage design is that none of the internal parts are exposed to contaminants such as salt, sand, chlorine or pool acids. These environmental contaminants cause corrosion and mineral deposits to form on the internal mechanism deteriorating regulator performance.

The Abyss 22 Navy II takes it one step further with the CWD. These kits further eliminate cold water from entering the spring cavity keeping the water further away from the internal mechanism and not allow the air flow of the regulator to be affected by the cold water.

The Abyss 22 Navy II uses Tri-Material Valve Technology. This patented technology created to optimize performance, safety and reliability. The valve is covered with a hard Polyurethane (PU) and the sealing surface is a layered with a soft PU for a perfect seal. Tri-material (brass, soft PU and heavy-duty” PU) reaches new levels of durability.

Another unique feature of the first-stage is the Dynamic Flow Control (DFC). The DFC system minimizes the intermediate pressure drop during inhalation, making it possible to use a simpler more reliable second stage. No type of manual adjustment of the second stage is necessary due to the consistency derived from a first stage that guarantees a stable flow of air, even under extreme conditions.

All metal technology second stages have superior performance over plastic second stages, especially in cold water, due to the high thermal conductivity that limits the freezing effect. Additional benefits are the improved durability, the longer working life and less dry mouth from breathing compressed air. This all metal second stage is made of marine grade brass and then coated with a special fluoropolymer resin finish on the second stage case and all key components to prevent ice crystals from forming in extreme cold conditions.

The patented mesh design of the second stage cover reduces the pressure of water flowing onto the regulators diaphragm and minimizes free-flow. Even in a strong current it eliminates the need for a knob to de-tune your air delivery system- advance technology through basic physics.

All Mares second stages are a reliable downstream valve design and offer the unique patented Vortex Assisted Design (VAD) system. The air bypass tube conveys air to the mouthpiece creating a swirling vortex with a low-pressure area in the center that keeps the diaphragm down during inhalation, for very sensitive and easy breathing at all depths. In a strenuous, unmanned evaluation performed by the U.S. Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU) the Abyss 22 Navy II surpassed the high qualifications and standards of the US Navy cold regulator testing at 190′ FSW (58 meters) for General Service and in water temperatures below 38°F (3.3°). Upon the Abyss 22 Navy II’s approval by the NEDU, it has now been included in the AMU list (Authorized for Military Use) Approval Number 1.3.16. The regulator 47.2 oz. (1337 g), comes with a 1/2″ threaded 29.5″ (75 cm) low pressure hose, has 1/2″ UNF threaded low pressure port, three 3/8″ UNF threaded low pressure ports, and two 7/16″ UNF high pressure ports.
